What I’ve been up to

Well it has been a great few months.  I finished school.  I will walk in April finally getting my bachelors degree in business.  It has been a great time but I am glad it is over.  Next year I will be going back to get my Masters, but until then I am taking a break.

I have been spending some time with my baby girl which has been great.  She is truly the most wonderful thing I have ever done.

I am also working on my home network and learning some coding in the process.  It has been really fun but also a challenge.  I want to clean up the server and get all my xbmc installations updated.  I also got a new tablet.  I got the Nexus 10 and am so glad I did.  This thing is awesome.  Super fast, awesome screen, and a sweet os.  I love android.

Well I am going to post some new movie reviews soon.  Bye for now

Wreck-it-Ralph

Well we finally went to see Wreck-it-Ralph yesterday at the discount theaters.  Wow what a suprisingly great movie.  It had lots of charm and was quite funny.  If you are an old gamer there will be some nostalgic moments, but it great even if you weren’t.  My wife who I don’t think has ever played a video game enjoyed it quite a bit, and even my Mom thought it was good.  We took both kids the 8 year old and my 3 year old daughter.  Both enjoyed it, the 3 year old didn’t even get bored

I would recomend this to anyone who is interested in a fun, cute, enjoyable movie that is good for all ages.

Looper

Well.  I just got done watching Looper, what an interesting movie.  Definitely different and unique look at time travel, or maybe not unique but for sure a different look at the way the story was told.  There were several scenes that I watched again just because the first time I missed something.  I dont want to give much away but it has some very interesting questions about change and growth.  The movie was not as action packed as I thought it would be.  There was a lot of slower scenes and some that were very hard to watch.  I would recomend this movie to anyone who is interested in a thought provoking action movie.  Those are few and hard to find and this one is a good one for sure.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Last night I went to see the first installment of The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey.  It really was every thing I was hoping for.  I am a huge fan of the book and the adaptation of The Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson.  As a fan of the books it is wonderful to see someone take such care with the stories.  All to often Hollywood destroys novels, but this case Mr. Jackson takes such care with the novels and gives them the respect they deserve that they come out wonderfully, even if they are not followed exactly.  If I have any criticism it is just that the book is more lighthearted.  The movie is much more serious and dark.  I would recommend this movie to everyone, however it is not for everyone.  You have to love the genre it order to love the movie but honestly……  how could you not love fantasy…lol.

I wanted to post a quick update to this post.  I am still very happy with the move myself, but after some discussions with other fans I realized that this movie is more of a preview to Lord of the Rings as opposed to a recreation of the book.  For me, this worked, but for some who are looking for the book it may be disappointing.  Peter Jackson is creating a prequel to his Lord of the Rings movies.  This is somewhat different then the book that JRR Tolkien wrote.  The Hobbit is not so much a prequel to Lord of the Rings but instead a separate story that has some of the same characters and exists in the same world.

Camping trip in Julian

This past weekend we went camping in Julian.  My Mogher-in-law had made all the reservations and taken the kids out earlier in the day.  Now it is important to note that it is November, and this particular weekend pouring rain.  We did have “cabins” and I mean that in the loosest sense of the word.  The cabins are one room with 6 bunk beds and luckily a fireplace.  We were at least warm inside.  The cabins were right outside the playground which was grezt for the kids.  It really was a great time…  except sleeping with a 3 year old.  Now I love my daughter.  She is the light of my life. But man she did not sleep well.  She is still a little to young, but it was good to e pose her to the experiance.  She needs to learn to be comfortable in her surroundings.

Windows 8 First impressions

So I took the plunge today and upgraded to Windows 8.  Normally i wait on something like this but given the current price of only $39.00, I decided I would give it a shot.

I must say the installation was super easy and only took about 30 minutes.  getting to know the new interface is also not as difficult as you might think as long as you remember that the idea is to make windows a seamless transition between multiple devices.  Microsoft is taking the phone+tablet+PC idea and running with it.

I was worried that i would not like the tiles, but actually I do.  They are……  cleaner then Android widgets and much more interesting then iOS icons.  I love Android widgets but you have to admit there is very little uniformity and they can make a very messy screen.  Windows 8 start page is much cleaner but still give you the updates that a widget does.

The start screen is obviously made for a tablet but works very well on a laptop too.  The one issue that i have is that i cannot figure out how launch programs that are not on the start screen lol.  but I am sure I will figure it out.

Prometheus…..wha???

So….  I am not sure if you saw it or not, but let me save you some time…..  wow it sucked.

I have really enjoyed Ridley Scott movies in the past, Alien, Blade Runner, and Black Hawk Down are all great movies.  Prometheus is not a good movie.  Unfortunately it was not thrilling, scary, provocative or even very entertaining.  Countless others have already commented on the most baffling aspects of the movie, which was pretty much all of it.  The motivations of the characters are a mystery and even more questions arise as the movie progresses and none, that is right none of them get answered.  i don’t care what the promotional material says, none of your questions get answered.

I must say however that the build up for the movie was great.  I loved the TED talk video Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) did, and the David the android videos.  Unfortunately the movie did not rise to the expectations.

First Post Ever!!

Sorry……….that is not really true, although it is my first post on WordPress, and on my own blog.  I am not sure what I will end up doing here, but I think for now it will be a place for me to speak my mind and record my life events.  Most will probably find it pretty boring……but who cares it is my life.

So here is a really cute picture of my daughter Julianne.  We just had her birthday party this last Saturday.  It was a pretty big party for my wife Jennifer, and also my step-daughter Brianne.  We also rolled in Halloween too.

This was at her 3rd birthday party. It is also her Halloween costume

I dressed up as Mickey and Jenn and Julianne had matching outfits.  It was lots of fun.
